Nightfall Special Rewards
In Cantha if you control a town you get a reward of 20% discounted merchant pricing in the special area reserved for the controlling guild. Since Nightfall does not have a comparable town control system, I was wondering if there were alternative means to get special rewards. I did not advance too far in the preview so was wondering if those who did gained access to any special rewards. For example, if you achieved a high Sunspear officer ranking it would be nice to have access to a spot in a town open only to Sunspear officers with NPC's there who give discounts up to the max 20% for a Sunspear Marshal.

As you proceed through the storyline you gain access to more skills, elite skills, more heroes, advanced weapons, advanced armor, better loot, ...
Do you need more rewards?

Sometimes I wonder to myself why guilds even go through a ridiculous amount of faction farming to hold a town.

Perhaps you missed the question in my post or I wasn't clear enough. In Cantha there is a system implemented where one can get discounts on merchant goods if you control a town and I was wondering if something similar might exist in Elona. I would particularly like it if it was linked to one's Sunspear rank through a special area open only to Sunspear officers. I did not see this in the preview and was curious if any sort of similar reward system had been implemented in Nightfall.

Rewards
I would agree that the faction-farming aspect of Factions is flawed. A LOT of work for so little return. However, I would be in favor of reduced prices based on a high rank like Sunspear Legend (or something like that). Allowing access to the elite mission based on rank seems like a goal oriented aspect as well.
Good call!

But those merchant goods really suck, nothing special about them.
But if you insist on having merchant discounts, why dont you ask for discount in you Guild Hall. My Guild Hall has all NPCs, but none of them will offer lowered prices . Isnt that unfair? I want to kick them out again....

Lol - I agree! Although I really like the convenience aspect and the social aspect of having the GH NPC's. Part of my thinking on this idea was to have a tangible reward for achieving high Sunspear rank. I am presuming that one won't need to achieve the highest ranks in order to access all the missions and other content in Nightfall. It would be nice if there was a tangible reward for the additional grind that achieving Sunspear Legend will doubtless require. Although the 20% merchant discount does not seem like much it does add up if you are an aspiring Treasure Hunter such as myself and buy lots of keys.

I understood your question. What else except merchant discount would you consider a "special" reward?
I'm aware of the merchant discount for alliances holding an outpost in the Echovald or Jade Sea. But this isn't comparable with Nightfall since Nightfall doesn't have faction (except with Balthazar), so it wouldn't make sense.
Sunspear rank is used to unlock the 2 x 15 attribute points, and determine when you're "ready" to proceed with the storyline, i.e. when certain gates open for you. Is that a "special" reward in your eyes?

Surely though once you achieve a Sunspear rank you cannot lose it?
Obviously you can lose faction.
Therefore the reward system for Sunspear rank would be all the time, which isnt the same as factions holding a town.
Additionally, dont forget that you have nothing like this in Tyria and no one complained then, and the Dev team predominantly working on NF is the Tyrian team.
Sounds me a little like someone wants to have their cake, eat it and then have a truck load more!

Just going by the event, basing access to discount areas by character's Sunspear rank wouldn't be very effective. I say this because it wasn't very difficult or time consuming to achieve the fifth or sixth tier in just a few days. We know that Sunspear Legend is 10,000 points. Unless it's restricted to Legends (or above?) and it becomes incredibly difficult to gain points after tier seven, I would assume that a huge number of players will gain access and most will after a few weeks.
The thought is good though. Having 'perks' attained through promotion is a nice idea, but they also seem like an inevitable gain for any character that a player uses quite often.

But this is good. Less grind for all and it's permanent so everyone doesn't have to faction farm all day to keep their outpost like they do in Factions. Not sure if lower prices from merchants is an idea to repeat. Less gold sinks is not good.

I would think that means the Alliance Battle system won't be in Nightfall? Meaning no towns to control right?

That was a Factions specifically implemented feature in that campaign. So no I doubt it will happen in Nightfall. Hopefully later on in campaign 4 there will be some new merchant style stuff for guilds, but until then the answer is verily unlikely.

If you get a high enough Sunspear ranking you should gain the ability to PK Sunspears with lower ranks. A general's gotta keep his colonel's in line somehow doesn't he?

If anything the Factions Alliance system should have allowed people with certain level of lux/kurz faction to enter Elite missions regardless of their alliance.
I think Arenanet learned from the Factions Elite missions that only a small portion of players got to play it through and they probably won't do the same for Nightfall.

Since getting sunspear ranks is required to get more quests and level, most people will have it won't they? So everyones going to have this special reward? So how is it a special reward at all? You just want cheap merchandise.

What is the point of your post? To make fun of some guy who plays guild wars? Great. Maybe next you can make fun of people who use internet forums.
